75 [1937
METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF ISLINGTON
(Public Health Department).
First Birthday Greeting Card.
The Medical Officer of Health wishes your child
many happy returns on the occasion of his/her first birthday,
the day of 193 and feels sure that you
will be interested in the health literature enclosed.
The foundations of health development are laid down in early childhood.
The Council have purchased a film on Diphtheria Immunisation which has
been exhibited at the Town Hall.
A two-page summary of the booklet on the Islington Health Services was
distributed through the medium of the Post Offices to the extent of 10,000 copies;
also at the request of the Libraries Committee leaflets giving a list of books dealing
with maternity and child welfare subjects were issued to the Voluntary Welfare
Centres and Day Nurseries for distribution.
In the early part of the year the Assistant Medical Officer of Health addressed
a Conference, held at the Central Library, Holloway Road, on Maternity and Child
Welfare work in Islington, with particular reference to infant mortality.
Representatives of the Welfare Centres and organisations both inside and outside
the Borough dealing with this branch of work were present, and many interesting
suggestions were forthcoming. A similar talk was given to the City Division of the
British Medical Association in June, 1937.
A number of other talks and lectures were given by the Medical Officer of
Health and the Assistant Medical Officer of Health. The Voluntary Welfare Centres
continue to give health talks, and this feature would appear to be an interesting
aspect of the educational work within the Borough.
