During the year 17 dairies were removed from the Register, due to the fact
that on routine inspections being made it was found that nine premises had ceased
to exist as dairies, and eight had become unsuitable for the purpose.
There were two prosecutions taken under the Milk and Dairies Order, 1926,
and one under section 10 of the Milk Act, 1934. The aggregate of penalties in
all cases was : fines, £2 and costs £6 6s. In one instance there were three
summonses against a firm, for carrying on the trade of Dairyman at premises
without being registered, failing to give one month's notice in writing of
intention to use the premises as a Dairy, and thirdly for exposing for sale and selling
"Pasteurised Milk" as such without a licence. The other case was in regard to
a registered "Purveyor of Milk in sealed containers only" selling loose milk on
premises not registered as a Dairy.

The number of visits paid by the Dairies, etc., Inspector, Mr. R. W. Norman, during the year 1937 was as follows:—

As a result of these visits, 67 notices intimating nuisances or defects were
served, and 55 warning letters sent to Dairymen, Milk Purveyors, Ice Cream
Vendors, and Artificial Cream Vendors, drawing their attention to the contravention
of the Acts and Regulations relating to their businesses.
