TUBERCULOSIS—HOUSING.
The practice of visiting houses in which tuberculous patients reside to ascertain
the sanitary conditions was continued during the year, and 495 visits were made for
this purpose. Most of the houses visited were found to be in a good state of sanitation,
but in 15 instances the conditions were considered very unsatisfactory, and
in 48 minor defects were discovered. In each instance a notice was served for the
defects to be remedied.
The following statement will give an idea of the state of the premises when
visited :—

INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN THE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
1,048 cases of the notifiable infectious diseases occurred in the Public Elementary
Schools of the Borough, of which 471 were Scarlet Fever and 342 Diphtheria.
The number of notifications of the several diseases are given below :—
