In December a communication was received from the Medical Officer of Health
of the London County Council regarding the utilisation of the hospital accommodation
to the greatest advantage in view of the difficulty of securing hospital nurses
and the selection for admission of cases of Scarlet Fever, Measles, Whooping Cough,
and Dysentery. Particular cases of these diseases were to be chosen, having regard
to the severity of the case and the home conditions, and particularly in the case of
Measles, the selection of children under two years of age be recommended owing
to the high mortality at this early age. Only under very exceptional circumstances
was it considered that Chicken Pox, Rubella, or Mumps, should be admitted.
Up to the end of the year, effects of the change had not made themselves felt,
but the results will be reported on from the experience gained during the following
vear.
