Illegitimate Births.—The illegitimate births numbered 218 and show a
decrease of 4 on the return of the year 1936. They were equal to a rate of 4.7 per
cent. of the total registered births.
Notification of Births.— 3,905 live births were notified under the Public Health (London) Act, 1936 (exclusive of 92 stillborn), or 87 per cent. of the total number that were registered during the year.

The above are the corrected figures. The actual number of stillbirths registered
in Islington was 108, plus 49 which took place outside the Borough, but belonging
to it, minus 18 non-residents which took place in the Borough.
DEATHS.
The deaths registered during the year numbered 3,813 (exclusive of still-births),
while the death-rate was equal to 12.90 per 1,000 of the estimated population,
or 0 46 above that of the previous year (12.44), and 0.29 above the mean of the
preceding ten years; whilst the death-rate of England and Wales was 12 4 and
the 121 Great Towns 12.5.
