The "Guest House" in connection with St. Luke's Day Nursery has accommodation
for 24 children (and four extra in an emergency). During the year ending
March 31st, 1936, the admissions numbered 58. The accommodation has always
been fully taken up, and there were many demands for admission which could not be
complied with.
Grants given in respect of work in premises outside the Borough boundary:—
The Claremont Central Mission Day Nursery, White Lion Street, N.l.—£50.
The Foundling Site Day Nursery, Guilford Street, W.C.I.—£30.
SCHOLEFIELD ROAD DAY NURSERY AND SUN CLINIC.
In last year's Annual Report reference was made to the Scholefield Road site
brought before the Committee by the Medical Officer of Health on the 9th July of
that year.
During the year 1936 proposals relative to the matter were before the Ministry
of Health and a further report was furnished by the Medical Officer of Health in
February. Schemes had been put forward both as regards adapting to some extent
the old building with necessary additions, and clearing the site for the erection of
an entirely new building, but as time went on it was the considered opinion of the
Borough Council that the latter was the more desirable. Negotiations as regards
this were in progress with the Ministry during the closing part of the year and estimates
for a new building were being obtained which would be put forward for the necessary
sanctions of the London County Council and the Minister of Health.
INVALID CHILDREN'S AID ASSOCIATION.
The Borough Council contributes £25 per annum to the Local Branch of this
Association. During the year, 103 Islington children under five years were given
periods of convalescence either in the country or by the sea, and 28 crippled
children of like ages, were provided with surgical appliances, splints, special boots,
etc.
