1936] 62
PRESERVED FOOD AND ICE CREAM.
On the 1st October, 1936, registration of these premises was brought under the
Public Health (London) Act, 1936, Section 187.
In 1935,167 premises were on the register for preserved food ; 109 were registered
during the year 1936, and one was removed from the register. The total on the
register at the end of the year, therefore, was 275, all of which were visited.
The number of ice cream premises in 1935 was 480; 49 cases were removed
from the register in 1936, 63 additional registered, so that the ice cream premises
on the register at the end of the year numbered 494.

It will be seen from the above table that 145 premises were removed from the
Register of Dairies during the year, due to the fact that on routine inspections
being made it was found that 57 premises had ceased to exist as dairies, and 88 had
either stopped selling milk loose or the premises had become unsuitable for the
purpose. Applications were made in these 88 cases for re-registration as purveyors
of milk in sealed containers only, and were automatically removed from the Register
of Dairies.
One dairyman was served with a notice to appear before the Public Health
Committee to show cause why he should not be removed from the Register, owing
to the unsatisfactory condition of his premises and method of bottling milk. On
appearing before the Committee he was severely reprimanded, instructed to carry
out such work as was considered to be necessary, and to comply with all the statutory
requirements.
Two purveyors of milk were reported to the Public Health Committee, under
the Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936, for selling " Pasteurized " milk as such
without being licensed. In both cases warning letters were sent on the instructions
of the Committee, and the purveyors duly applied for licences to sell " Pasteurized "
milk, which were granted.
