During the year 1936 the Committee, under the Chairmanship of Mr. W. G.
Harris, had the benefit of the funds raised by the Christmas Seal Sale, 1935. This
money has been used to help patients in need of financial assistance. These numbered
about 6 per month, but in October and November the number was practically
double.
A number of patients have received grants of milk and eggs. As this is Borough
Council expenditure, all such applications, after being investigated by the Secretary
of the Tuberculosis Care Committee, are considered by the Public Health Committee.
The Handicraft Class continues to meet each week at the Royal Chest Hospital,
and in June, 1936, a stall was taken at an Exhibition and Sale organised by the
Standing Conference of Metropolitan Boroughs Tuberculosis Care Committees, and
held at Carpenters Hall. The receipts amounted to £7 5s. Od., and after paying
expenses the Committee were able to distribute a small share of the profits to each
of the regular Handicraft Students. A Christmas Sale of Handicraft work was
also arranged, the proceeds from which amounted to £3 3s. Od.
A Christmas Seal Appeal was organised again during 1936 ; about 1,000 Appeal
letters were sent by post, and resulted in nett receipts of £54 9s. 4d.
The Committee appreciated an allotment of clothes received this year from
the Queen Mary's Needlework Guild. This supplemented the parcels which were
received from friends and workers. The Committee appeals urgently for clothing
suitable for patients in hospital and for small children. £10 was received from the
Alexandra Day Fund and twenty recommendations for the Mayor's Christmas
Dinner Fund were granted.
For the total year's work the statistical records are thus summarised:—370
new cases; 1,008 visits paid; 1,994 letters written; 765 interviews.
PUBLIC HEALTH (TUBERCULOSIS) REGULATIONS, 1930.
A quarterly revision of the register is made; the necessity for this being
systematically carried is justified by the numbers found to have removed
from the address originally given, and while every endeavour is made to trace
the patient, success in discovering the new address is only occasionally possible.

The following is a statistical statement showing the number of cases of Notified Tuberculosis on the register at the commencement of the year, the numbers, removed during that period, and the actual number remaining at the close of the year 1936.
