DYSENTERY.
Thirty-five cases were notified during the year. In four instances the diagnosis
was not confirmed. Of the remaining 31 confirmed cases, 10 occurred in the Royal
Northern Hospital, 3 in St. Mary, Islington, Hospital, and 18 were notified from
various sources (home and other hospitals).
PNEUMONIA.
Acute Primary Pneumonia and Acute Influenzal Pneumonia come within the
Council's Scheme for assisted home nursing. During the year 24 patients had
nursing attendance at a cost of £17 4s. 6d.; other cases were of course admitted
to hospital. When a practitioner in attendance on a case so desires, a general
bacteriological examination is made for the presence of pneumococcus.
ISLINGTON (CHICKEN-POX) REGULATIONS, 1930.
The regulations came into operation on the 24th March, 1930, and from that
time to the end of this year 3,043 cases had been notified. In 1936 the notifications
numbered 318.
GLANDERS, ANTHRAX AND HYDROPHOBIA IN MAN.
Order under Section 56 of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, by the
London County Council. (Came into operation on the
26th April, 1909.)
No case was recorded during the year.
Acute Encephalitis Lethargica and Acute Polio-Encephalitis.
These diseases became notfiable under an Order of the Ministry of Health
on the 1st January, 1919. During the year no case of Acute Encephalitis Lethargica
came to our notice; no death was registered. No case of Polio-encephalitis
was notified, and no death was registered.

SUPPLY OF INSULIN TO NON-INSURED PERSONS.
Under Section 77 of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891. and the Public
Health (London) Act, 1936, Section 227, a temporary supply of medicine, etc.,
for the poorer inhabitants of a district, with the sanction of the Minister of Health,
is made. (For details of the Scheme see former Reports.) The demand for such
assistance for patients comes through the Almoners of three of the largest hospitals.
During the year under review 11 patients have received this assistance from the
Borough Council, the cost of the Insulin supplied being £26 3s. 6d.
