West Islington Library, Lofting Road : Lectures were given to men on
October 29th, November 5th and 12th, by Mr. Lee, on " How life has been
developed—Processes, Stages, Human Responsibility," and to women on
November 26th, December 3rd and 10th, given by Miss Bennett, the subject being
" The Nature of Woman, and her responsibilities in the growth and development
of her physical construction."
DEATHS FROM COAL-GAS POISONING.
During the year 21 deaths were registered from asphyxia caused by the
inhalation of carbon monoxide gas. These were 4 more than in 1935.
Eighteen of these deaths were attributable to suicide, while the cause of the
remaining three deaths was accidental.
Of the 21 deaths, 12 were males and 9 females, the ages ranging from 20 to
75 years.
ACCIDENTAL DEATHS.
The deaths of Islington residents due to accident numbered 145. Of this
number 47 deaths were ascribed to vehicular traffic and may be summarised as
follows:—

Of this number, 31 deaths occurred to Islington residents when in outlying
districts.
In addition to these, 11 non-residents were killed by vehicles within the
borough.
CORONER'S COURT, INQUESTS, AND MORTUARY.
During the year 32 bodies were received into the Mortuary, as compared with
an average of 187 in the preceding 10 years.

No inquests were held, as contrasted with an average of 124 in the ten years 1926-35.
