THE MILK AND DAIRIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1922; THE MILK
(SPECIAL DESIGNATIONS) ORDER, 1923.
During the year 1932 the following applications were made for licences under
the provisions of the above Order to enable the persons to sell Specially Designated
Milk :—

ADULTERATION OF FOOD AND DRUGS—FOOD AND DRUGS
(ADULTERATION) ACT, 1928.
During the year 1,181 samples of foods and drugs, including 573 informal
samples, were submitted for analysis by Mr. Green, the Food and Drugs Inspector,
who purchased the samples for submission to our Analyst, Dr. Alan W. Stewart.
Of the total samples, 1,143 were reported to be genuine and 38 adulterated, or
3.2 per cent. This percentage is 0.8 below the previous year, and 4.0 below the
average rate during the preceding 10 years.
There were 22 prosecutions under the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act,
1928, of which 17 were successful, 15 relating to milk.
Seven samples of milk were taken at the request of other Local Authorities,
and sixteen samples of milk were submitted by the Inspector for bacteriological
examination.
Four informal samples were taken under the Public Health (Condensed Milk)
Regulations, 1923 and 1927 ; and seven informal samples under the Public Health
(Dried Milk) Regulations, 1923 and 1927, all of which were found to be satisfactory.
In addition to this work, Inspector Green made 1,128 visits under the Merchandise
Marks Act; 3 special visits in connection with food poisoning; 42 visits
respecting the Departmental Enquiry on Shop Assistants, and instituted prosecutions
other than under the Food and Drugs Act as follows :—

No proceedings were taken under the Public Health (Preservatives in Food)
