Notices Served.—In consequence of the 1,190 sanitary defects discovered
as the result of the inspections above, 324 intimation and 8 statutory notices were
served. Of these notices 118 were served on the owners of factories, 90 on the
owners of the workshops and workplaces, and 33 on the owners of bakehouses
and 74 of restaurant kitchens. Two of the bakehouses were in an exceedingly
dirty and neglected condition, and the Medical Officer of Health had to adopt
strong measures in regard to them. They were, however, when pressure was
brought to bear, effectively cleansed, and the conditions improved, so no prosecutions
were taken. In addition to these nuisances, 100 were discovered on Outworkers'
premises, necessitating the service of 12 notices. Most of these defects
were remedied and it was not found necessary to resort to legal proceedings.
Registers.—There were 2,630 workshops on the Registers as contrasted
with 2,598 in 1931, while the total number of workrooms were 3,710, as compared
with 3,674 in the previous year; 131 workshops were added to the Registers, while
98 were removed from it.

The various workshops and workplaces are tabulated as below:—
