DEATHS FROM THE DISEASES OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.
(Exclusive of Tuberculosis and Influenza.)
These diseases, which include Chronic and Acute Bronchitis, Pneumonia,
Pleurisy and Asthma, caused 521 deaths, 217 less than in 1931. They were equal
to a death-rate of 1.60 per 1,000 of the civil population, and represented 12.9
per cent. of the total deaths registered in the Borough.
Acute Bronchitis—There were 90 deaths as compared with 207 in the
previous year, 49 occurred among males, and 41 among females. The deaths of
7 infants under 12 months were registered.
Chronic Bronchitis—69 deaths were ascribed to it, 37 being males and
32 females. This return is 40 below that of 1931.
Pneumonia (All forms).—329 deaths were registered, of which 179 were
males and 150 females, and were 58 below the year 1931. 49 infants under a year
old died from this disease, while between the ages of 1 and 5 years 23 died from
it. Above 5 years of age the deaths numbered 257.
171 deaths occurred in Public Institutions, chiefly the Islington Hospitals.
