ANTI-TOXIN TREATMENT.
During the year 68,000 units of Diphtheria Anti-toxin serum were issued to
Medical Practitioners in the Borough. Of this quantity 18,000 units were sold,
the total amount received by the Council being 17s. 2d. The remaining 50,000
units were given free, owing to the patients' limited means.
Scarlet Fever.— 1.093 cases were notified, and they showed a decrease of
205 on the average (1,298) of the ten years 1921.30. The attack-rate was equal to
3.37 per 1,000 of the civil population annually, which is a decrease of 0.54 per
1,000 of the mean rate (3.91) of the preceding ten years. In London the attack.
rate was 2.8 per 1,000 of the civil population.
Enteric Fever.— 16 cases were notified which were equal to the average
that obtained during the ten years 1921.30. The attack.rate was 0.05 per 1,000
annually, equal to the mean rate of the last ten years. In London the rate was
0.04.
Typhus Fever.— No case was notified.
Puerperal Fever.— See page 13.
Erysipelas,— 177 cases were notified, and were 52 above the average of the
preceding ten years, the attack.rate being 0.54 per 1,000 of the civil population.
FATALITY FROM THE PRINCIPAL NOTIFIABLE
INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
By "Fatality" is meant the percentage proportion of deaths to attacks of
sickness.
During the year it was found that of the 2,111 cases notified, 43 deaths
occurred, or 2.04 per cent., which contrasts with an average percentage of 2.8 in
the preceding ten years 1921.30.

Hospital Isolation.— Of the 2,111 cases of infectious disease notified,
2,015 were isolated in hospital, equal to a percentage of 95.4, while only 4.6 per
cent, of the patients were nursed at home,
