REPORT OF THE WORK OF THE DAY NURSERIES RECEIVING
GRANTS FROM THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Lower Holloway Day Nursery, 547, Holloway Road, N.7.
During the year ending December 31st, 1931, the attendances at this Day
Nursery were :—

INVALID CHILDREN'S AID ASSOCIATION.
The Borough Council contributes £25 per annum to the Local Branch of this
Association. During the year ended 31st December, 1931, 65 Islington children
under five years were given periods of convalescence either in the country or by the
sea, and 21 children of like ages, crippled, were provided with surgical appliances,
splints, special boots, etc.
REPORT OF THE WORK OF VOLUNTARY CENTRES.
North Centre.—This Centre issues a general review of the work, but does not
include a special medical report.
The activities of the various Departments are summarised thus :—1. Three
(sometimes four) Ante-natal Clinics weekly ; 2. One Post-natal Clinic weekly for
mothers; 3. Ten Children's Clinics weekly (Consultations for children up to five
years of age); 4. Visiting (professional and voluntary) daily in the homes; 5.
Morning Callers daily (mothers that come for advice) ; 6. Eleven Dental Sessions
weekly. Two, sometimes three, Centre Dental Sessions weekly. A Dental Club ;
7. Three Massage Clinics weekly; 8. Sewing Classes weekly; 9. Many Health
Talks weekly; 10. The training of Infant Welfare Students; 11 ; The training of
thirteen Infant Welfare Pupils (L.C.C. and M.C.C. Scholarship holders); 12. Five
Home Helps and a Home Helps' Club; 13. A Thrift Club and branch of National
Savings Association; 14. A Convalescent Fund; 15. Mothers' Committee and
Fathers' Committee ; 16. " Light " Clinics daily ; 17. Four Wards (three wards for
ailing children under two years of age, and one for three mothers with their
babies); 18. Statistical Records.
The possession of Wards at this Centre is of special value, not only on account
of the work done there, but because of its educational influence on the mothers, as
well as for the training of Students and pupils. The Centre gives a course of
training in infant care, lasting from three to six months. The Infant Welfare
Students attending this course are given a certificate at the conclusion of their
attendance and work has been satisfactory.
