Handicraft Glasses.-Under the auspices of this Committee a handicraft
class for tuberculous patients was started on the 30th March, 1930. The
number on the register is 12 men and 8 women, who do not now show infection in
their sputum. The class is held weekly and the average attendance of about 10.6
is considered satisfactory, as this is really not a commercial proposition, these
patients never expecting to compete with the regular workpeople. The handicraft
consists of leather work, weavings, etc. Its purpose is served by the encouragement
given to the patients, thus taking the mind off their ailment. A marked
improvement has been noticed in their general apparance; the Tuberculosis Officer
says this is also reflected in their physical condition as found by medical
examination.
PUBLIC HEALTH (TUBERCULOSIS) REGULATIONS, 1924.
The provisions of these Regulations continue to be systematically carried out
with regard to the Register of Notified Cases of Tuberculosis. A quarterly
revision of the Register is made by the removal of the names of patients who
have died, left the district, and those, who in the opinion of the Tuberculosis
Officer, confirmed by the L.C.C. Medical Officer, should be denotified.
The following is a statistical statement showing the number of cases of Notified Tuberculosis on the register at the commencement of the year, the numbers, removed during that period, and the actual number remaining at the close of the year, 1930
