These figures, of course, represent only the number of cases which have been
dealt with officially. The number encountered was numerous, but in view of the
difficulties of finding other accommodation, proceedings were not instituted in the
majority of cases met with.
HOUSING RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC HEALTH
DEPARTMENT.
During the year 1929 representations were made to the London County
Council regarding housing accommodation for "special hardship" cases. These
were cases in which there was gross overcrowding, and in all 51 were so recommended
for special consideration.
In addition to above 25 special investigations were made, but as these did not
come within the definition of "special hardship" they were not recommended.
DEMOLITION OF HABITABLE DWELLINGS.
During the year 1929, 141 houses have been demolished. Of this number, 51
came under the Improvement Scheme of the London County Council re Georges
Road Area, and comprised the following:—
Georges Road, Nos. 76, 78, 80, 82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92.
Hope Street, Nos. 1 (4 flats), la, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
Hope Place, Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
Bratton Street, Nos. 1, 15, 16.
James Street, Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.
Hartnoll Street, Nos. 10, 12, 14.
Eden Grove, No. 45.
The remaining 90 houses having been demolished for new cinemas and
business premises.
