Notices Served In consequence of the 1,264 sanitary defects discovered
as the result of the inspections above, 255 intimations and 19 statutory notices
were served. Of these notices 78 were served on the owners of factories, 139 on
the owners of the workshops and workplaces, and 18 on the owners of bakehouses
and 27 of restaurant kitchens. In addition to these nuisances, 117 were discovered
on Outworkers' premises, necessitating the service of 20 notices. Most of these
defects were remedied and it was only found necessary in 5 instances to resort to
legal proceedings. Orders were made in 4 cases, with £4 4s. Od. costs and in
the other the summons was withdrawn on payment of £2 2s. Od. costs.
Registers.— There were 2,507 workshops on the Registers, as contrasted
with 2,469 in 1928, while the total number of workrooms were 2,530, as compared
with 3,446 in the previous year; 136 workshops were added to the Registers, while
110 were removed from it.
