During the year 1,177 persons were examined by the Tuberculosis Officers,
and the patients made 8,533 attendances.
At the Northern Dispensary there were 539 new cases, and at the Southern
638, while the attendances at the former were 2,634 and at the latter 5,899. The
examination of contacts with tuberculous cases showed that 57 were suffering from
tuberculosis, 25 were suspects, and 400 were not suffering. The nurses of the
Northern Dispensary paid 772 visits, and those of the Southern 2,106, to the homes
of the patients, while the Tuberculosis Officer of the Northern Dispensary made
50 visits, and of the Southern 363 visits to the patients' homes for the purpose of
examining them.
Pneumothorax Treatment was also administered to sixteen patients at
a cost of £113 18s. 6d.
Finsen Light Treatment.— Nil.
Artificial Sunlight Treatment.—The treatment of Tuberculosis by
artificial sunlight came into operation on the 1st April, 1927.
Light treatment was given to four patients at a cost of £2 2s. Od.
