Insurance.—Patient's insurance card lost? by agent. 39s. arrears paid
by C.O.S. ; full benefit then received and money repaid to C.O.S.
Qualifying stamps supplied ; full benefit then received.
Patient, age 16½. Qualifying stamps supplied, benefit received after
some delay, and money repaid for stamps by patient. Approved Society
reported insurance card understamped by employer originally (i.e., card not
stamped for first 6 weeks after patient's 16th birthday). Money for qualifying
stamps reclaimed by Ministry of Health from employer, and by patient
subsequently from Ministry. Loss of benefit, £3 4s. 6d., reclaimed by Tuberculosis
Care Committee from employer on behalf of patient.
Advice given in several cases about insurance difficulties, arrears, qualifying
stamps, etc. ; others referred to Insurance Inspector for advice.
Income supplemented.—Patient's wife referred to Italian Benevolent
Society who made a grant of 10s. a week.
Invalid dinners obtained for patients at home, 2s. a week being paid for
them by U.S.F. or C.O.S. (3403/25, 040/29, 2485/29).
Patient discharged himself owing to wife's serious illness. Referred to
U.S.F. who granted 10s. a week and food tickets.
Patient referred back to British Legion after final grant had been made.
Case reconsidered and further grant made pending treatment.
Patient referred to Red Cross who pressed claim for pension and helped
meantime. Pension obtained.
Help for patient obtained from Guardians by intervention of Tuberculosis
Care Committee.
Patient's children placed on free school dinner list, while patient away
and husband out of work.
Patient away. Wife and child on Out-Relief. Out-Relief increased by
8s. a week through intervention of Tuberculosis Care Committee.
Patient away. Wife referred to Infant Welfare Centre. Milk given.
Patient at home. Gross income 24s. a week for three people. Referred
to Guardians who allowed 5s. a week and ½ cwt. coal.
Patient died. Funeral expenses in excess of insurance money obtained
from London County Council.
Patient away. Pension of 5s. a week for blind mother obtained.
Patient away. Wife ill at home. Doctor's fees paid.
Employment.—Patient accepted for Godalming domestic training scheme.
Patient unable to accept offer owing to death of married sister, leaving babyto
be cared for.
Advice given to patient about obtaining printing machine for work at
home. Gross income otherwise 30s. a week for patient and wife and three
children.
Patient's wife refused to have him home for fear of infection. Vacancy
obtained at Firewood Factory ; first week's wages advanced and subsequently
repaid.
