VACCINATION.
Of the 4,903 births registered in 1927, the returns of vaccination shows that
only 2,355 infants were successfully vaccinated, while 9 were found to be
insusceptible. There were also 189 who died unvaccinated, and 1,845 statutory
declarations of conscientious objection to vaccination were obtained by the parents
or guardians; 29 vaccinations were postponed under medical authority, 198 were
removed to other districts or place unknown, thus leaving 278 unaccounted for.
The return of certificates of exemption, therefore, represents 37 per cent. of the
registered births.
