The "Sunlight" lamp was used in respect of 89 children who made 924 attendances.
The conditions calling for its use were in connection with Debility, Malnutrition,
Rickets, Impetigo, Chronic bronchitis, Urticaria, Chronic Coryza, Adenitis,
etc.
Ward.—During the year as regards numbers there were fewer admissions to
the Ward because of the longer average stay of each patient. The Medical Officer
reports that the cases are very largely those of defects of feeding and of malnutrition
and that these require prolonged treatment if they are to receive any permanent
benefit. Number of patients treated, 97; Transferred to a "Home," 1; Transferred
to a hospital, 1; Death, 1; Discharged (inclusive of Transfers), 89; Remaining, 7.
The average length of stay was 21¼ days.
"Health Week" and Educational Propaganda. Through the courtesy of the
Milk Publicity Council a special lecturer spoke to the mothers on Tuesdays for a
period. Lectures on "Hygiene in the Home" were also given through the Health
and Cleanliness Council; these were in addition to the special "Health" lectures
on the 2nd October.
