EDUCATIONAL PROPAGANDA.
As formerly, a Special Committee, composed of members of both the Public
Health and Maternity and Child Welfare Committees, considered propaganda,
especially in relation to Health and Baby Week. The week was inaugurated,
Friday 30th September, by a special lecture on "Ultra Violet Rays, Clean Air,
and Health," by Professor Leonard Hill, M.B., F.R.S. (National Institute of
Medical Research), preceded at 7.30 p.m. by a musical programme in the Large
Hall of the Central Library, Holloway Road. The Mayor, Councillor T. L.
Harrold, J.P., presided. A circular was widely issued in the Borough, and
through the agency of the schools, by the kind permission of the Education
Officer of the London County Council. From the Centres a special flag was
issued to the mothers, the one side indicating "Health Week" on a representation
of sunrise, and on the other side the wording: "Fresh Air and Sunlight
Bring Health." Owing to the difficulty of obtaining permission to hold a
regular flag day, and the onus of the control of such outside distribution, these
flags were only given out within the precincts of the various welfare centres.
The Committee, as a special subject for the week, laid emphasis on the Health
Promoting Effects of Sunlight and Fresh Air.
Sunshine is a cure for tuberculosis.
Sunshine prevents and cures rickets.
"Your Son and Heir, Needs Sun and Air."
The back of the leaflet issued was a copy of one of our Health Week Posters,
entitled " Health Election."
