Public Health Department,
Municipal Buildings,
Upper Street, N.1.
Mr Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen.
I have the honour to submit the Report on the Health and Sanitary Condition
of the Borough for the year 1927.
The death-rate for 1927 was 12.3 per 1,000 of the inhabitants, as against
12.0 in the previous year, which however, was the lowest recorded since 1923;
the figure being in that year 11.6. The rate of 12.3 must, therefore, be considered
with satisfaction as being a continuation of the low rates obtained.
The infantile mortality rate this year is exceptional. The rate is 53 per
1,000 births; it is the lowest on record, and 24 per 1,000 births below the mean
annual record of the preceding ten years. As compared with the previous year
it is 13 less.
In the Report this year an effort has been made to facilitate reference by
giving in addition to the index a reference to legal proceedings and matters
specialy dealt with in previous reports, as well as to such Tables as were deleted
in order to save space for new matter.
I am
Your obedient Servant,
Medical Officer of Health.
