Midwives Act, 1902 and 1918.
In connection with these Acts we received information from the Medical
Officer of Health of the London County Council, of slight inflammation in the eyes
of eight other infants, all of whom made complete recovery.
Whooping Cough.
Visits were paid to 126 persons suffering from whooping cough. Of these,
88 were notified by doctors; in 20 others the information was derived from the
schools, in nine from health visitors, in six from the L.C.C., and three from parents.
Age.
Fourteen were children under 1 year, 64 were aged 1 to 5 years, 48 were 5 to
16 years.
Spread of Infection in Family.
The 126 cases occurred in 105 families. In 87 families 1 case occurred; in
15 families 2 cases occurred; in 3 families 3 cases occurred.
Removal.
Forty children were removed to hospital, approximately 32 per cent.
All these were admitted to hospitals of the L.C.C.
Deaths.
Two children died, aged respectively 4 months and 2 years.
Measles.
During 1935 I received information of 36 cases of measles. Of these 11 were
notified by school teachers and 6 by medical practitioners; information of 11 was
given by L.C.C. hospital authorities, 6 by health visitors, 2 by parents.
Age.
Two were under 1 year, 16 were between 1 and 5 years, 11 were between
5 and 16 years, and 7 were over 16.
Spread in Family.
The 36 cases occurred in 34 families. In 2 families 2 cases occurred.
Removals.
Fifteen patients were removed to L.C.C. Infectious Diseases Hospitals.
Measles Control in Schools.
The special arrangements of the London County Council for securing through
the school organisation earlier information of measles was continued.
