London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1932.
Registration of Food Premises.
Section 5 of this Act requires the registration with the sanitary
authority of premises used for the preparation or manufacture of sausages
or potted, pressed, pickled or preserved meat, fish or other food intended for sale.
Power is given to the sanitary authority to refuse to register, or to remove from
the register, any premises that are unsuitable; a person aggrieved by such action
has a right of appeal to a Court of Summary Jurisdiction. The requirement to
register does not apply to premises used as a club, hotel or restaurant.
At the date of the preparation of this report the following premises were
registered in accordance with the requirements of the Act: —
Sausages 18
Preserved meat 19
Pickled meat 6
Preserved fish 1
Total 44
All the premises concerned were carefully inspected prior to registration.
Notification of Food Poisoning.
The London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1932, requires medical
practitioners to notify all cases of food poisoning occurring in their practice. This
early information enables prompt measures to be taken for dealing with any
suspected source of infection. Information of all cases in the County of London
is distributed to medical officers of health by the London County Council.
No case of food poisoning was notified in Holborn during 1934.
Slaughter of Animals Aot, 1933.
This Act came into operation on the 1st January, 1934, and its major
provisions were set out in the Annual Report for last year.
During the year the question of applying Section 1 of the Act by resolution
to sheep, ewes, wethers, rams and lambs, was considered, but no action was taken
by the Council in the matter, having regard to the existing London County
Council by-laws on the subject.
One application was received and granted from a slaughterman for a licence
to slaughter under Section 3 of the Act.
