The breach in each of these cases was the sale of the sausages without
disclosing the presence of the preservative. The conditions under which the
offences were committed were not found to call for legal proceedings, but in each
case a letter of warning was sent to the vendor concerned.
Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, 1928.
On the 1st January, 1929, the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, 1928,
consolidating the four Food and Drugs Acts of 1875, 1879, 1899 and 1928, came
into force. The Margarine Act of 1877 and the Butter and Margarine Act of 1907
are also included in the scope of the new Act. Much progress has been made by
the consolidation of these Acts; the consolidation is a great convenience.
Although the proportion of articles found adulterated is low the careful administration
of the Act is valuable as a preventive measure.
