All the drinking water used in the Borough is supplied by
the Metropolitan Water Board. There are no private wells in use.
All the dwelling houses in the Borough have a piped supply direct
to the houses and none is supplied by standpipes.
Regular and frequent sampling is carried out by the Metropolitan
Water Board and samples are also taken by your inspectors and
examined by the Borough Analyst on receipt of complaint or if there
is any reason to suspect the purity of any particular supply.

All the houses in Hampstead are connected to the main drainage
system, the sewerage passing eventually to the London County
Council's main sewers and to the sewage disposal works outside the
Borough.
The Finchley Road widening scheme has involved modifications
of many drainage systems and alterations and renewals of sewer
connections. This has been under the constant supervision of your
inspectors.
Barbers and Hairdressers.
Eighteen inspections were made of barbers' premises. Minor
defects and infringements only were discovered and were readily
dealt with by the proprietors concerned. Ninety premises are
registered under Section 18 of the London County Council (General
Powers) Act, 1954.
