Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.
Infestation Order, 1943.
The staff engaged on the above consists of three full-time men (two
temporary). The services of the Sanitary Inspectors are always available
to give advice and assistance to the public on this problem.
No major infestation of premises was reported during the year, but
minor infestations, particularly in the vicinity of Hampstead Heath
and the Railway land and tunnels, continue to be a source of trouble
requiring constant action.
The number of complaints relating to rats and mice infestation
again shows a reduction—499 as compared with 668 for last year and 804
during 1945.
Systematic poisoning of the sewers was again undertaken and the two
treatments accounted (vide the Ministry of Food formula) for the destruction
of 4,310 rats.
Water Supply.
There is now no well in the Borough from which drinking water is
supplied.
The supply provided by the Metropolitan Water Board has been
satisfactory.
Inspection and Supervision of Food.
The need for the conservation of food supplies, both local and national,
continues to be of paramount importance, and the services of your
Sanitary and Food Inspectors are always available for advice and
assistance to the general public and food traders throughout the Borough.
