No underground bakehouse was compulsorily closed.
Underground bakehouse prosecution.—Proceedings were instituted
against the occupier of an underground bakehouse at Kilburn for not
observing due cleanliness in connection with the bakehouse, and in
respect of the accumulation of refuse. The occupier was similarly
prosecuted in the previous year and despite the visits and warnings of
the Sanitary Inspectors had continued to fail to maintain the necessary standards of cleanliness, etc. The case was heard by the
Magistrate at Marylebone Police Court on 11th July, 1939, who
inflicted a fine of £10 and £2 2s. costs.
It is regrettable that no more stringent action can be taken against
such a person engaged in an essential food business such as the baking
of bread, etc., than after repeated warnings, the infliction of a relatively
small fine.
Cowsheds, Slaughterhouses or Poultry Slaughterhouses.
None of these exists in the Borough.
