New End Housing Scheme.
The War has deferred the carrying out of the Scheme on this
site and the contract for the Scheme has been abandoned. The Council
approved the proposal to provide a First Aid Post by adaptation of a
portion of the basement of the proposed Scheme but the Ministry of
Health would not authorise the further procedure with that proposal.
The Council, therefore, decided to utilise as far as practicable the
whole of the site for Shelter purposes.
Garnett Road Housing Scheme.
In view of the outbreak of War and with the approval of the
Ministry of Health, the Council decided to complete the carcass of
the building comprising this scheme and to take the necessary steps
for the protection of the works. It was also agreed that the lower
ground floor should temporarily be reinforced and in other ways made
suitable as an Air Raid Shelter.
