VITAL STATISTICS.
Population.
For the purpose of this Report the Registrar-General's estimate
of the population at the middle of 1939, which was calculated to have
been 90,170 has been adopted. This shows an increase of 1,223 as
compared with 88,947 at Census, 1931.
It is not easy to estimate the number of persons who removed
from Hampstead on or shortly after the outbreak of War, but I think
it is not unreasonable to suppose that about 25,000 left the district.
