Fulham Chest Clinic
There has been no change in the number of patients on the clinic register during the year. The clinical pattern of those referred has also shown
no startling change during the same period.
The number of new patients referred has shown, however, a slight fall,
whilst the number of patients transferred into the clinic has risen from 27
to 43.
The number of patients on the Tuberculosis Register who have died fell
again from 26 to 11; apart from one male in the 36-45 age group, all these
were mainly in the 56-65 years group.
Another mild winter and the co-operation of the general practitioners
in home therapy has reduced the numbers of new bronchitic patients admitted
to the in-patient unit.
Social Work Report
If the dictum "There are no diseases-only sick people" is accepted,
it is axiomatic that one treats the person who has the symptoms. This is
particularly so in a chest clinic and any relief of anxiety from whatever
cause-emotional, financial, environmental and amelioration of actual
physical conditions, are all part of the service.
We look forward to the changes in the organisation of the Borough
social services. Many patients came into more than one category of need and
they should benefit from the changes envisaged.
The routine Work of rehousing, convalescence, holidays, State and voluntary financial help, assistance with clothing, and the administration of
the extra nourishment scheme, has continued as usual and we should like to
extend our thanks to all who have helped us in our work.
