The year unaer review was notable for the number of changes in personnel.
There were no fewer than 5 retirements, 4 resignations, one transfer to another
department and one death.
Dr. Shinnie, my part-time Deputy, retired during the year. He had been
of great service to the department where his long experience as a Medical Officer
of Health proved invaluable. He was most liked and was missed by everyone. The
news of his death at the time of writing this report (May 1963) was a blow to us all.
The sudden death of Mr. Gardiner in December at the age of 54 was a sad
loss. He had been with us since 1947 and was a popular and efficient officer.
Mr. Turner and Mr. Godden had each served the Council for more than
30 years, and both Mrs. Stimpson and Mr. Robinson were long-serving officers;
their combined knowledge and experience will be missed by the Department.
I should like once again to thank all members of the Council, and in particular the Chairman and members of the Health Committee and the Chairman and
members of the Establishment Committee, for their guidance and counsel during
the year under review. The staff of the Health Department, in a year where there
were a number of changes gave me loyal support and I should like to stress their
conscientious attention to duty.
I am. Your Worship, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
F. M. DAY,
Medical Officer of Health
