Legal proceedings were taken under Section 8, Food and Drugs Act, 1955,
against a butcher for selling a chicken with a diseased liver condition. The liver
tissue showed numerous encapsulated deposits of cancer. The defendant pleaded
"not guilty" to the offence. The Court found the case proved and granted the
defendant an absolute discharge. The Council were awarded 5 guineas costs.

A large quantity of foods, which although unsound, did not call for action under Section 9, was voluntarily surrendered. A list of the commodities and the amounts involved is shown below: —
