Experiments have been carried out in relation to the
bacteriological examination of milk and the pasteurisation
of milk : a full report on this work is included in the appropriate section.
With regard to infectious diseases, the total number
notified was below the average for the past 10 years.
I very much regret to have to record the death of the
late Dr. Naomi Dancy, who was appointed Assistant
Medical Officer for Maternity and Child Welfare in April,
1936.
Dr. Dancy had for many years, prior to her appointment
with this Council, acted as medical officer to the Old Oak
Infant Welfare Centre and was very highly esteemed by all
the mothers living in that part of the Borough.
Dr. Florence E. Millard Harvey was appointed in
January, 1938, and is now responsible for the clinics in the
northern part of the Borough.
It is my pleasure, once again, to express my appreciation
of the kindness and consideration shown to me by the Chairman and members of the Public Health and Maternity and
Child Welfare Committees, and to record my thanks to the
members of the staff for their loyal co-operation.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
J. B. HOWELL,
Medical Officer of Health.
