On investigation of the infant deaths of other wards it
is found that a like small proportion of attendances at
Infant Welfare Centres had been made.
This fact again points to the necessity of increasing the
number of visits to infants under one year and also to the
great value of tact and powers of persuasion in the Health
Visitor to overcome the prejudice which still abounds in
certain parts of the Borough towards " clinics."
Deaths in Institutions.- Of 116 infant deaths in the
Borough only 19 took place at home, and the remaining 97
in institutions. On careful enquiry into the latter cases
