It calls for intensive propaganda and the education in
feeding, clothing and general care of those responsible for
the nursing and upbringing of the very young.
Diarrhoea.—The number of deaths from diarrhoea was
27, being the same as in the previous year. Twenty-one
were children under one year of age.
Hospital Treatment.—Zymotic Enteritis.—The
arrangements made by the London County Council for the
provision of a number of beds for the treatment of zymotic
enteritis was continued.
Deaths of Illegitimate Children.—The corrected number
of deaths of illegitimate infants under one year of
age was 16 or at the rate of 147 per 1,000 illegitimate
births.
It is interesting to note the very great difference
between the death-rate of legitimate and illegitimate
infants. The former being 72 per 1,000 whilst the latter
is 147 per 1,000, a difference of 75 per 1,000.
