INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
FOOD SUPPLIES.
The supervision of the food supplies of the community is
one of the most important duties which devolve upon the
Public Health Service.
The health of a nation depends more upon its food
supplies than any other factor and, therefore, special care
must be exercised to ensure that the purity thereof is above
suspicion.
It is imperative that all persons engaged in the handling
of food should pay strict attention to cleanliness, and with
this object in view arrangements were made for notices
to be exhibited in the lavatories of premises where food is
prepared and / or sold.
The proprietors of the various stores and shops, in almost
every instance, gave their approval and arranged for the
notices to be displayed in the staff water closets.
In a few cases the firms arranged for posters embodying
the terms of the notice to be affixed in the lavatory apartments.
The notice was printed on cardboard and glazed, the
wording being as follows :—
Hammersmith Borough Council
Public Health Department.
AS HANDLERS OF FOOD
you should always
WASH YOUR HANDS
after using a W.C.
