UNITED KINGDOM
As long ago as 1924 a Ministry of Health Committee said
fluorides were as poisonous as formaldehyde. The addition of
fluorides to food is PROHIBITED BY LAW in the United Kingdom.
Unfortunately the British Food and Drug Acts do not regard
water as food AND WITHOUT THIS DISTINCTION FLUORIDATION
WOULD BE ILLEGAL UNDER THESE ACTS.
SWEDEN
In Sweden, part of the town of Norrkoping
was fluoridated in 1952. After 10 years the
Supreme Administrative Court declared the
experiment illegal.
In 1962 a Law was passed permitting the
fluoridation of public water supplies by Local
Authorities, subject to the approval of the
Minister.
SWEDISH PARLIAMENT REPEALS
FLUORIDATION
On 18th November 1971, the Swedish Parliament,
after a long debate, in a free vote in
which members of all 5 Parties participated,
repealed the Law authorising fluoridation.
FLUORIDATION OF PUBLIC DRINKING
WATER SUPPLIES IS NOW ILLEGAL IN
SWEDEN.
GERMANY
In Germany, the Food Law passed in 1958,
prohibits the addition of fluorides to food and
water.
As an exception, special permission, renewed
annually, was given by the Federal Ministry of
Health to the Wahlershausen district of Kassel
to continue an experiment in fluoridation begun
some years previously.
ASSOCIATION OF
WATER ENGINEERS OPPOSES
For a number of years past, the Association
of Professional Water Engineers has opposed
fluoridation on the ground that the Food Laws
prohibited it and that damage to health was
possible.
As a result of legal and health considerations,
the fluoridation plant of the municipal waterworks
at Kassel was taken out of service on
1st April 1971. (See translated letter opposite.)
THERE IS THEREFORE NOW A BAN ON
FLUORIDATION EVERYWHERE IN W.
GERMANY.
