Mayor's Fund
During the winter, emergency supplies of bagged fuel were issued
to necessitous old people who were without heating. The fuel was
purchased by the Department with the aid of a generous grant from
the Mayor's fund.
Christmas Shopping, Parcels, Gifts and Parties
Garden Parties organised by the Guides of Woolwich and the
Eltham Rotary Club enabled 24 and 50 elderly people, respectively,
to spend an enjoyable afternoon in the open air during the summer.
On request and in connection with Harvest Festival, 9 local
schools and the Cub Scouts of New Eltham were given, altogether,
over 360 names of elderly persons to whom they dispensed parcels.
Over 700 parcels for our elderly residents were generously donated
during the Christmas period, including 500 from the Mayor's
Fund, 150 from the Eltham Round Table, 25 from McCleod Road
School and from numerous other private individuals.
In addition to the usual functions normally held by this department
Christmas and New Year Parties were staged for our older
