61 | 3 | Fifty-eight cases occurred in a general outbreak. Average dura— tion of illness, which was severe, was 7 days. The food suspected was chicken which had been served hot and cold. Two whole chickens removed from the re— mains of the meal and on exam— ination were found to contain Salmonella enteriditis. Of the three remaining cases, two occurred in one family and there was one individual case. No particular food was sus— pected in either instance. | |

Sardines consumed at a previous meal was suspected but two samples taken from the remains of this meal (one sample of sardine and one of olive oil) proved negative on examination. One individual case suspected a "take away" meal of sweet and sour pork, and pancake roll purchased from a restaurant. Five samples of similar foods taken from the restaurant, were subsequently examined with negative results. | |
