Figures for London in particular throw into relief a psychiatric
problem which is becoming very familiar in the cities of countries
which sustain high living standards, for deaths from suicide in the
Metropolis were more than treble those for tuberculosis and 11.5%
higher than the total deaths from road accidents.
Homicide—Three deaths, one a male of 19 years and two
females of 25 and 38 years respectively, were recorded during the
year and in each case the defendant was convicted of murder.
Common Infectious Diseases
There were no deaths registered during the current year from
diseases such as measles, scarlet fever, whooping cough, diphtheria
and diarrhoea which are covered by this classification.
