last year's total of 2,560. This gives a crude Death Rate for the
Borough of 11.23 per 1,000 of the population, representing an
increase of 0.05 over that calculated for the previous year. When
the area comparability factor is taken into account the rate is
increased to 12.13 for comparative purposes.
The comparable Death Rates for Greater London and for England
and Wales are 11.6 and 11.9 respectively. Inner London
returned a crude Death Rate of 11.9.
In Greenwich, the crude death rate per 1,000 living was 12.25
for males and 10.18 for females compared with 12.44 and 11.27,
the respective national rates.
The inset table showing the causes of deaths at all ages has been
supplied by the Registrar-General and is included in accordance
with the Ministry of Health's request.
In the Appendix to the Report will be found a table giving by
districts, the causes of, and ages at death of residents whilst
indicating the numbers actually dying in Public Institutions.
Age Mortality
The age mortality and the distribution of the deaths between the
different quarters of the year are shown by the following table:—

Of the four quarters, the last registered the highest proportion of the year's total deaths and the third the lowest, viz. 28.7% and 21.3% respectively.

It will be observed from the following table that during 1969
the deaths in the age group 0-5 years accounted for 2.6% and that
of the "over 65's" 69.7% of the year's total. Figures for the
previous four years are given for comparative purposes.
Two deaths were in respect of centenarians, one a female of 104
and the other a male of 100 years.
