Sample No. | Article | Nature of Adulteration and/or irregularity | Action Taken |
---|---|---|---|
552 | Stewed Steak in Gravy, Canned | Contained meat 73%. Canned Meat with Gravy should contain not less than 75% of meat. | Manufacturer advised of Public Analyst's findings when sample was analysed and asked for observations. |
597 | Fruit Crystals | Contained no fruit but consisted of an artificial Lemonade Powder made from sugar and tartaric acid with lemon flavouring and colouring. | Manufacturer advised of Public Analyst's findings on his analysis of the product and asked for observations thereon. |
608 | Table Sea Salt | Contained moisture, 10.5%. Table Salt does not normally contain more than 1% of moisture. | Manufacturer informed of Public Analyst's comments on the sample. Explanation by manufacturer was that this was an isolated incident possibly due to bulk salt accident-ly taking up excessive moisture due probably to weather conditions. Subsequent sample proved genuine. |
618 | Concentrated Apple Juice | Consisted of a low calorie apple squash containing approximately 40% of apple juice with added flavouring, artificial sweetening, preserving and colouring matters. | This sample was incorrectly labelled "Concentrated Apple Juice" when sent to the Public Analyst. It should have been labelled "Low Calorie Apple Squash", which would then have shown the sample to be genuine. |
619 | Shandy | Contained Proof Spirit, 3.1%, instead of not more than 2% as declared on the label. | Manufacturer informed of Public Analyst's comments and asked for observations thereon. |
