Rodent Control
General
The current year saw a continuance of the Work Study Scheme
which was introduced in June, 1968. Under this scheme the staff
of the rodent control section was reduced in number from an
establishment of nine operators and one investigator to three fulltime
and one part-time operators, and one full-time investigator.
These men are now paid a bonus of up to 20% of their wages,
providing that all complaints and jobs are satisfactorily dealt with.
Although all requests for assistance in respect of rodent infestations
were dealt with by the reduced staff, it was not found possible
to undertake any routine sewer baiting for rats. However, it is
proposed that sewer treatments will commence again during 1970.
Of a total of 3,298 recorded complaints (1,415 of rats and 1,883
of mice) 2,349 were notifications, 554 re-notifications from occupiers
or other sources and 395 found during survey; the monthly
average of complaints from all sources was 274.
