Noise Abatement Act, 1960
Local authorities have been empowered to deal with noise and
vibration as statutory nuisances under this Act and during the year
32 complaints of this nature were received and investigated.
In most cases the nuisances were of a relatively minor nature
and were resolved by informal action on the part of the Public
Health Inspectors.
In one instance substantial measures were taken at industrial
premises in order to reduce noise during the night shift. On completion
of these measures a considerable reduction in noise levels
was recorded.
In all, a total of 223 inspections were carried out during the year
by the Public Health Inspectors.
Pharmacy and Poisons Act, 1933
During the year the Chief Executive and Town Clerk received
11 applications for entry of name in the Council's List of Persons
entitled to sell Poisons included in Part II of the Poisons List and
136 applications from vendors for retention in the Council's List.
All were duly considered and approved.
Poisons Information Service—Circular 16/63 received from the
Ministry of Health drew attention to a Poisons Information Service
which has been set up at Guys Hospital and which came into
operation on the 2nd September, 1963. The functions of the service
are:—
