Four auxiliary workers were engaged and, under careful supervision, these were able to help with the bathing of the frail elderly,
dressing and undressing patients and other less skilled duties.
Marie Curie Day and Night Nursing Service
Duties undertaken in the Borough by this organisation involved
the services of a night nurse for 35 patients (324 nights), while a
further 23 patients received help in other ways, such as the provision of fuel, clothing, bedding and extra nourishment.
Woolwich and Plumstead Relief in Sickness Fund
In accordance with this scheme 3 patients were provided with
the services of a night nurse (22 nights), 36 were assisted with
travelling and holidays, and 1,000 received financial help and
assistance in the provision of linen, clothing, toilet necessities,
special equipment, extra nourishment and fuel, etc.
Charles Soames Trust, Greenwich
One hundred pounds was spent mainly on help towards holidays
for the sick and disabled residents of Greenwich.
Training
During 1969, ten State Registered Nurses successfully undertook the District Nursing Certificate and a number of State
Enrolled Nurses attended an "in-service" training course.
Refresher Courses
Arrangements were made for 16 District Nursing Sisters to
attend refresher courses as under:—
3—2 weeks Practical work Instructors course.
6—1 week refresher course, Q.I.D.N.S.
1—1 week refresher Rehabilitation.
1—1 week course on General Practitioner attachment.
5—1 day Terminal Care Symposium.
3—1 day at Kings College Hospital. Renal Dialysis.
Observation Visits
These were made by the following students:—
2 Integrated Hospital students 6 weeks with D.N.
5 Integrated Hospital students 8 days with D.N.
2 Medical students 1 day with D.N.
24 Pupil Midwives 1 day with D.N.
37 Hospital students 1 day with D.N.
1 student from Holland 1 day with D.N.
