Although each person was assessed to contribute towards the

Adaptation for Kidney Machine
In March, 1967, the Renal Unit of the Royal Free Hospital
offered to provide one of its patients, a local resident, with a
Dialysis Machine for use at home. However, certain works of
adaptation had first to be carried out at the patient's home to
facilitate the installation and use of the machine. It was necessary
to provide an electric power point, a sink unit with hot and cold
water services and Waste outlets, together with other minor
structural alterations. All the required adaptations were carried
out by the Council under powers contained in Section 28 of the
National Health Service Act, 1948, and the machine was
successfully installed.
