MISCELLANEOUS
HEALTH EDUCATION
On 1st April, 1965, in accordance with the London Government Act, 1963, the Metropolitan Boroughs of Greenwich and
Woolwich became one. Health department staffs of the two
Boroughs and the majority of the London County Council's
Division 6 Office, along with other Welfare personnel and District
Nursing organisations were amalgamated to form the Health and
Welfare Department of the new London Borough of Greenwich.
In order to obtain an accurate and balanced picture of health
education during the current year, this first report must include
the activities carried out in the first quarter of 1965 by the
previously separated authorities.
Prior to 1st April, 1965.
Current activities of the Greenwich and Woolwich Metropolitan Boroughs:—
1. Film Shows and/or talks to local organisations.
2. Displays to local organisations.
3. Production of display material.
4. Production of notices.
5. Local Campaigns (including exhibitions) on Home Safety,
Environmental Health, Old People's Welfare.
6. Participation in national campaigns.
7. Lecture courses to shops and local youth organisations.
8. Distribution of leaflets and posters.
9. Distribution of "Better Health" to local general practitioners,
dentists and factories.
Current activities of L.C.C. Health Department, Division 6:—
1. Yearly programmes of monthly health education topics.
2. Regular shop window display.
3. Distribution of posters and leaflets to Welfare Centres.
4. Provision of, and assistance with equipment, films, filmstrips and related media.
5. Lecture courses (e.g., "Mothercraft").
6. In-service training (e.g., Home Helps; students).
7. Film Shows to invited audiences.
8. School health education campaigns and courses.
Subsequent to 1st April, 1965.
Following the amalgamation the services outlined above continued to operate in parallel within the new combined Health and
